- Three new pastors sponsored. This has been, by far, the most successful program for us. It appears as if one of the sponsorships may be achieved already. I hope to inform you within a few days of the details.
- Financing Yarlow’s law degree. This fellow has stuck by us though thick and thin. He has been helping us not only without pay, but he had to postpone obtaining his law degree in order to help RLM with the Gebeor case. Frog cannot speak highly enough of his loyalty and selfless duty to Alive Liberia. Due to your generous gifts we were able to give him $200 last month. He needs $600 more to finish his schooling. He has a government job awaiting him upon graduation. It is his intention to always stay involved with Alive Liberia on a voluntary basis. The benefits of his expertise in the past and in the future are hard to calculate. I just found out during my last trip that he was once the equivalent of one of our state governors until he had to run for his life from Taylor.
- Real estate settled. Part of this is done already. Since Mark and I wrote these down we have sent Frog the money to survey the Roberts Field Road property. The Delany Burgess Home property is another matter. When Peter bought it he didn’t pay for all of the land we agreed on. The seller is a friend of Frog’s and is being patient, considering all that has happened. However we need to finalize this soon. I am not sure how much is in play here but I will find out soon.
- Harris Yates’ church and home. We were able to purchase land for Harris to build a church and home but have not been able to afford to help build anything on it. This is a true man of God. He was thrown out of both house and church because he would not go along with corruption. His church has grown tremendously. During my first trip there, in 2004, I went to his church of about 30 souls. Attendance now runs sometimes close to 200. However, the old saw mill that they are renting is needed by the landlord for business. Time is running out for them.
- Wood business established. This too has taken the fast track. I just mailed a check for the wood planer. It is 24″ and weighs about 3000lbs. We got a great deal. We also have a 1000lb table saw ( as you might have guessed, both are Africa proof) and the Woodmizer. We are now shopping for a three phase generator to run these machines. We had to tap into our container fund to finance these items but the Lord will provide.
- Expand our donor base. We feel we need three new churches involved in our work. I will work on this. Chris is working on a general DVD to explain what we do. Mark has done a great job on this in the past but all the films are dated. If any of you have any leads as to where I can speak let me know.
- Team trip. This fall we need a good group of folks to take on our trip. Comfort just got back and told Karen and I that Delta is on again for a direct flight. We will work on this starting about June or so. Our presence there means so much to our friends in Alive Liberia.
More to come,
Phil
